EVIQ and BYD Join Forces to Propel EV Adoption in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is accelerating its push toward sustainable transportation. A newly inked partnership between the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Company (EVIQ) and Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, representing BYD in the Kingdom, marks a significant step forward. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), announced on January 27, 2025, focuses on creating an integrated electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. It aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 sustainability agenda.

Building a Foundation for EV Growth

The partnership between EVIQ, a joint venture between the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), and BYD, a global leader in new energy vehicles (NEVs), will deploy fast-charging infrastructure at BYD Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility locations across Saudi Arabia. Tailored charging packages will also be offered to BYD customers, making EV ownership seamless and efficient.

“Our partnership with BYD Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility marks a significant milestone in transforming Saudi Arabia’s transportation landscape,” said Mohammad Gazzaz, CEO of EVIQ. “By combining our expertise in fast-charging infrastructure with BYD’s expertise in electric mobility, we aim to deliver an unparalleled EV charging experience for EV owners in the Kingdom, contributing to the nation’s sustainability goals and Vision 2030 agenda.”

EVIQ has ambitious plans to deploy over 5,000 chargers in strategic locations by 2030. This collaboration aligns with the company’s strategy to lead the Kingdom’s transition to EVs by providing accessible, high-quality charging solutions.

Mohammad Gazzaz, CEO of EVIQ and Badr Khojandi, General Manager of BYD KSA, sign their partnership agreement.

A Shared Vision for Sustainability

The collaboration’s scope includes ensuring global standards of quality, safety, and efficiency for the charging infrastructure. For BYD, which sold an impressive 3 million new energy vehicles globally in 2023, the partnership is a chance to expand its presence in Saudi Arabia while fostering a greener future.

“Strategic collaborations, such as this, are key to shaping a greener, more sustainable future for Saudi Arabia,” said Badr Khojandi, General Manager of BYD KSA. “The partnership between BYD and EVIQ aligns with our shared vision of driving sustainable mobility through cutting-edge EV technology and infrastructure. Together, we aim to empower EV adoption by providing accessible, efficient, and high-quality charging solutions across the Kingdom.”

This alignment also supports EVIQ’s commitment to fostering local and international partnerships to build a robust EV ecosystem. With a focus on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability, EVIQ’s efforts are poised to make EV ownership more convenient and attractive.

Research and Development in Focus

Central to this initiative is EVIQ’s state-of-the-art Research & Development (R&D) Facility in Riyadh, the first of its kind in the region. The facility plays a critical role in testing and refining EV technologies, ensuring they meet the specific needs of the Saudi market. By developing world-class infrastructure and technologies, EVIQ is setting a benchmark for quality, safety, and efficiency.

The R&D facility also highlights EVIQ’s role as a pioneer in the Saudi EV market. It works to overcome challenges like infrastructure compatibility and user accessibility. This ensures that the chargers deployed under the partnership meet the highest standards, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to sustainable innovation.

Driving Toward a Sustainable Future

This partnership comes at a pivotal moment. Saudi Arabia is ramping up efforts to diversify its economy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. By prioritizing EV adoption, the Kingdom is positioning itself as a regional leader in sustainable transportation. EVIQ’s vision to create a comprehensive charging network is key to this strategy. It will provide the infrastructure needed to support a growing EV market.

As the global EV market grows, Saudi Arabia’s proactive approach places it at the forefront of the transition to clean energy. Partnerships like this demonstrate the potential for collaboration to drive meaningful change. With combined expertise, EVIQ and BYD are setting the stage for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
