Lexus’ refreshed LX SUV with new hybrid and off-road options

Lexus has unveiled a refreshed version of its flagship SUV, the LX, which now boasts a series of enhancements, most notably the addition of a hybrid powertrain option, the LX 700h, and a new off-road-oriented Overtrail version. The updates mark a significant step in the Japanese automaker’s efforts to blend luxury with advanced technology and rugged capabilities.

The headline variant of the updated LX range is the introduction of the LX 700h hybrid model. This vehicle is powered by a sophisticated hybrid system that combines a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine with an electric motor and battery setup. This combination is managed through a 10-speed automatic transmission, producing a total output of 457 horsepower and 80.6 kg/m of torque. A noteworthy innovation in the 700h model is its dual-electric motor system, incorporating both an alternator and a starter motor. This design offers the unique advantage of continued operation solely on the engine in cases where the hybrid system might fail, providing a layer of reliability and reassurance to drivers.

Expanding the LX line-up further, Lexus has introduced the Overtrail variant, tailored for off-road enthusiasts. This model is distinguished by its rugged aesthetic, featuring exclusive paint colours, a blacked-out styling kit, and distinctive off-road style aluminium wheels paired with all-terrain tyres.

To boost its off-road credentials, the Overtrail comes equipped with electronic front and rear differentials, complementing the existing transfer case and central differential. These additions allow for selectable drive modes, optimising handling and performance across diverse and challenging terrains.

Inside, the LX’s facelifted models benefit from significant technological enhancements. A new 12.3-inch central touchscreen now dominates the dashboard, providing intuitive access to the latest Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+) driver assistance features. Suspending occupants in comfort across all terrains, the SUV’s suspension system has been meticulously reworked to balance the demands of on-road luxury and off-road robustness.

The announcement of these updates aligns with Lexus’s broader strategy to offer a comprehensive range of vehicles that meet the diverse desires of luxury and adventure-seeking customers. By adding these features and options to the LX range, Lexus aims to showcase both cutting-edge luxury and formidable off-road prowess in one package.

While no specific pricing details have been released, the new LX models are expected to arrive in dealerships soon, attracting Lexus enthusiasts and potential new customers intrigued by the blend of sustainability, luxury, and off-road capability.
