Ford Mustang Mach-E breaks record for longest distance on a single charge

A Ford Mustang Mach-E has officially set a new benchmark in electric vehicle capabilities by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled on a single charge.

The new record – 569 miles (915 km) – stands as a remarkable advancement over the previous distance benchmark of 564 miles (908 km), which was set in September 2023 by Zeekr’s autonomous division in Hangzhou, China.

The impressive accomplishment was achieved by a team from Webfleet, Bridgestone’s mobility management solution, consisting of drivers Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke, with Richard Parker serving as the co-pilot.

To ensure the attempt’s authenticity, the entire journey was meticulously documented using independently verified video footage, odometer readings, GPS data, and battery level information provided by Webfleet, ensuring a transparent and credible record-setting process.

The Mustang Mach-E involved in this feat was equipped with a 91kWh battery pack. Remarkably, the vehicle maintained an average efficiency of 6.25 miles (10.06 km) per kWh while traversing public roads. The journey covered diverse routes across Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, and Cambridgeshire, embodying real-world driving conditions with a mix of urban and rural environments.

The official certificate confirming the Guiness World Record.

Beverley Wise, the regional director for Webfleet UKI Bridgestone Mobility Solutions, expressed pride in the accomplishment, calling it “a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this endeavour.”

Wise emphasized that the record not only signifies a significant milestone in the electrification of road transport but also showcases the potential of electric vehicles when complemented by advanced tire design and fleet management technology from Bridgestone.

The record-setting drive spanned over 24 hours, reflecting ordinary driving situations and covering a variety of road types to simulate everyday usage scenarios. This extensive drive was supported by the AA, with its president Edmund King praising the achievement. King highlighted how this successful endeavor could shift public perception about the driving range of electric vehicles, promoting their viability as a major component of future transportation systems.

The involvement of Ford, Bridgestone, and Webfleet underlines a collaborative effort to push the boundaries of what’s possible with current electric vehicle technology, providing a tangible demonstration of how far EV capabilities have come. The achievement underscores the car’s potential for endurance, reinforcing the feasibility of long-range electric travel in real-world conditions.
