Every BYD hybrid car on sale in the UAE

From AED 82,900 to AED 178,900, BYD now offers the broadest and most affordable plug-in hybrid range of any brand in the UAE.

BYD’s UAE partnership with Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility was signed in March 2023, with the first plug-in hybrid models following a year later. Six PHEV models are now sold through authorised showrooms in Dubai, Sharjah, Al Ain, and Ras Al Khaimah.

Battery electric vehicles held 63.27 per cent of the UAE hybrid and electric vehicle market in 2025, according to one industry estimate, with Tesla, BYD, Hyundai, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz leading overall. Plug-in hybrids represent the remainder, appealing to buyers who want lower fuel bills without committing fully to battery-only driving.

The Song Plus remains one of BYD’s most popular models in the UAE, according to DriveArabia. Yet the hybrid range extends well beyond it, and buyers comparing the lineup for the first time face an unfamiliar set of names and numbers.

This guide covers every officially available BYD plug-in hybrid. To compare any of these models against the broader UAE EV and hybrid market, Drive EV offers an independent overview of vehicles currently available and helps you assess which car might be the best choice for your personal circumstances.

How does BYD’s hybrid system work?

BYD calls its plug-in hybrid system Super DM, which stands for Dual Mode. The standard version, DM-i, is electric-first: the petrol engine primarily charges the battery rather than driving the wheels directly, which makes the car feel closer to a full EV in everyday use. BYD’s fifth-generation DM-i 5.0 platform, used in newer models such as the Seal 7 and Song Plus, claims engine thermal efficiency of up to 46 per cent, compared to around 38 per cent for a typical petrol engine.

Older models in the range use earlier DM-i generations with somewhat lower figures. All models carry BYD’s Blade Battery, a lithium iron phosphate pack designed to resist thermal runaway. Every model in the UAE range comes with a six-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and eight years or 200,000 km on the battery.

What is the most affordable BYD hybrid in the UAE?

The Shark 6 pickup uses a separate variant called DMO, Dual Mode Off-road, which adds twin-motor AWD and terrain modes.

The Qin Plus DM-i starts at AED 82,900, according to the BYD UAE website, making it the most affordable plug-in hybrid from any manufacturer currently on sale in the UAE. It is a five-seat compact saloon powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a front-mounted electric motor. The 11.75 kWh Blade Battery delivers 55 km of pure electric range. Combined petrol-electric range reaches approximately 755 km. Total output is 177 hp. At this price it competes directly with conventional petrol saloons from Toyota and Honda, while adding the ability to run on electricity for the majority of urban journeys.

Is there a BYD hybrid saloon with more range?

Two further DM-i saloons sit above the Qin Plus. The Seal 6 DM-i is priced at AED 87,900 for the Design trim and AED 95,900 for the Premium. It is the compact DM-i saloon in BYD’s Ocean series, with 491 litres of boot space. As BYD uses the Seal nameplate across both EV and DM-i variants, buyers should confirm the powertrain with their dealership before purchase.

The Seal 7 DM-i is BYD’s premium hybrid saloon, launched in the UAE in June 2025. It is priced at AED 109,900 for the Design trim and AED 129,900 for the Premium. Combined system output is 270 hp. The 17.6 kWh Blade Battery provides 100 to 150 km of pure electric range, and combined range exceeds 2,000 km. The Design trim includes 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, a 12.8-inch multimedia display, and a six-speaker audio system. The Premium adds a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, and ventilated seats.

Which BYD hybrid is best for families?

Two plug-in hybrid SUVs cover this ground. The Sealion 5 DM-i starts at AED 89,900 for the Design and AED 99,900 for the Premium. It is 4,738 mm long, seats five, and offers 463 litres of boot space. The 1.5-litre DM-i engine pairs with a front electric motor to produce 210 hp. BYD UAE quotes a combined range of up to 791 km. It carries 18-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and a 12.8-inch central touchscreen as standard.

The Song Plus DM-i is BYD’s best-selling model in the UAE and covers the compact crossover segment. It is priced at AED 119,900 for the front-wheel-drive Design trim and AED 144,900 for the Premium AWD. The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and front electric motor produce 197 hp in the FWD variant. The Design trim includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a 12.9-inch rotating touchscreen, and a nine-speaker Dirac audio system. The Premium AWD upgrades to a 15.6-inch rotating screen, a head-up display, multi-colour ambient lighting, and an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. Pure electric range reaches 160 km, and combined range is approximately 1,000 km. Confirm current pricing with your local dealership before purchase, as prices can shift between model years.

The BYD Shark 6.

Is the Shark 6 a real alternative to a diesel pickup?

The Shark 6 launched in September 2025 as the first plug-in hybrid pickup truck on sale in the UAE. It is priced at AED 158,900 for the Premium trim and AED 178,900 with the Off-Road Kit, which adds underbody protection and terrain hardware. A 1.5-litre turbocharged engine pairs with dual electric motors via BYD’s DMO system, producing 430 hp and 650 Nm of torque. The 29.5 kWh Blade Battery provides approximately 100 km of pure electric range, with a combined range of around 520 km. The 0-100 km/h time is 5.7 seconds, and towing capacity is 2.5 tonnes.

Neither the Toyota Hilux nor the Ford Ranger currently offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the UAE, giving the Shark 6 a clear distinction in the segment. Terrain modes cover mud, sand, and snow. The cabin includes a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, ventilated seats, and an eight-speaker Dirac audio system.

What do buyers need to know about ownership costs?

No direct government subsidy applies to PHEV purchases. EV owners in Dubai have historically been eligible for a free Salik tag (waiving the tag registration fee), designated parking, and charging incentives, though eligibility varies by vehicle type and emirate; PHEV buyers should confirm current terms with their dealership. BYD’s DM-i models can run almost entirely on grid electricity for typical urban commutes, with the petrol engine available for longer journeys. At current DEWA tariffs, running costs are substantially lower than a petrol equivalent for most driving patterns. Check out our charging guide for current costs.

Authorised showrooms are located at Dubai Festival City, Auto Village Dubai, Sharjah, Al Ain, and Ras Al Khaimah. For an independent comparison of BYD hybrids alongside other EVs and plug-in hybrids on the UAE market, visit our partner site, Drive EV.

Prices correct as of April 2026. All prices include VAT and exclude registration, insurance, and transportation fees. Range figures for the Sealion 5 are based on WLTP testing conducted outside the UAE and may vary in local driving conditions. Buyers should confirm current pricing, specifications, and powertrain variants with their local authorised dealership.
