Polestar’s flagship four-door grand tourer is now on sale in the UAE through Al-Futtaim, with prices starting at AED 439,000. It’s the first confirmed local pricing for the car, and the order books are already open.
What has Al-Futtaim announced?
Al-Futtaim has confirmed the UAE launch of the Polestar 5, the Swedish brand’s flagship electric grand tourer. Buyers can place an order today, and every car follows a built-to-order process. According to the launch announcement, pricing starts at AED 439,000. However, the release doesn’t say what the more powerful Performance version costs.
Customer consultations and personal configurations take place at two showrooms. The first is Polestar Space Dubai in Dubai Festival City. The second is Polestar Space Abu Dhabi at Mina Zayed. Meanwhile, the release gives no date for the first customer deliveries.
How powerful is the Polestar 5?
Two versions are on offer. The Dual motor car makes 550 kW (748 hp) and 812 Nm of torque, and Polestar quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The Performance model goes further, with 650 kW (884 hp) and 1,015 Nm. As a result, its claimed 0 to 100 km/h time drops to 3.2 seconds.
In the Performance car, a front motor developed by ZF works alongside a rear motor that Polestar designed in-house. Both versions sit on a bespoke bonded aluminium platform. They also share an 800 V electrical architecture, which is most important when it’s time to charge.
How far can it go, and how quickly does it charge?
Every Polestar 5 carries a 112 kWh lithium-ion battery. On the WLTP test cycle, Polestar quotes up to 678 km for the Dual motor version. By comparison, the company rates the Performance version at up to 558 km. These are manufacturer figures from the official test procedure, so real-world range will vary with speed, temperature and driving style. We haven’t yet been able to check them independently.
Thanks to the 800 V system, the car accepts DC fast charging at up to 350 kW. Polestar estimates that a 10 to 80 per cent top-up takes as little as 22 minutes. That’s the brand’s own estimate, though, and actual times depend on the charger and the battery’s temperature. Even so, it would fit a long motorway stop into roughly the length of a coffee break.
What’s it like inside?
Polestar describes the 5 as a four-door grand tourer, and its shape centres on aerodynamic efficiency. The company quotes a drag coefficient of 0.24. A low nose, a sleek roofline and flush frameless glass all help, and Polestar says interior space hasn’t suffered as a result.
Inside, there’s a 4+1 seating layout. Overhead sits the largest panoramic glass roof Polestar has fitted so far, at more than 2 metres long and 1.25 metres wide. Meanwhile, the driver faces a 14.5-inch portrait centre screen running Android Automotive with Google built-in.
Audio comes from a Bowers & Wilkins system with 21 speakers and 1,680 watts of output. It also includes active road noise cancellation. In addition, the cabin uses bio-based natural fibre composites, recycled aluminium and recycled textiles. According to Polestar, the aim is to cut back on fossil fuel-based components.
Where does the Polestar 5 fit in the line-up?
The 5 sits at the top of Polestar’s five-model range. That range also includes the Polestar 2, the Polestar 3 and the Polestar 4 in coupé and SUV forms. Design-wise, the car draws directly on the brand’s Precept concept. Globally, Polestar says its cars are available in 31 markets across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
Lucas Bellieud, managing director at Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, called the car’s arrival “an important milestone for Polestar in the UAE”. He added that it “introduces a compelling new offering for customers seeking a premium electric vehicle that combines exhilarating performance with refined Scandinavian luxury.”
What should buyers watch for next?
For now, the key unknowns are delivery timing and the price of the Performance version. Prospective owners will also want to see how close the car gets to its WLTP range in hot conditions. Until independent tests arrive, the published range and charging numbers remain Polestar’s own claims. Still, a confirmed starting price and open order books give UAE buyers a clear first step.
