New Dubai Environment & Climate Change Authority established

A new government body has been set up to drive the implementation of Dubai’s ambitious green plans.  The Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA) marks a significant step forward in the United Arab Emirates’ commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

Directed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, DECCA’s formation aligns with Dubai’s goal to rank among the top 10 cities worldwide in environmental and resource sustainability indices within the next decade.

Under the leadership of Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, DECCA aims to integrate sustainable practices across various sectors, enhance biodiversity conservation, and expand green spaces throughout Dubai.

Mohammed bin Rashid issued directives to establish the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to cement Dubai’s position as a leader in the global effort to combat climate change, aiming for a complete transition to clean energy by 2050 and a 90% enhancement of air quality by 2033.

Dubai’s vision includes doubling its green cover and increasing its protected natural areas by 60% by 2040, underpinning its approach to economic growth with principles of environmental sustainability. DECCA will be a critical component in this.

This move is poised to significantly influence the green economy’s growth, showcasing Dubai’s commitment to setting a benchmark for sustainable urban development on a global scale.

DECCA is also fully aligned with the objectives of Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33.
