Cheapest electric cars in the UAE

The entry price for a new electric car in the UAE has dropped sharply. Three years ago, AED 130,000 was the floor. Today it is AED 79,900. On the used market, prices start lower still.

This guide covers the best-value new EVs on sale at the time of writing (April 2026) and the most compelling used options across UAE platforms. All prices are drawn from official dealer sources and verified listings.

How low has the entry price actually gone?

A combination of Chinese manufacturing and increased competition has reshaped the bottom of the market. Five new EVs and plug-in hybrids now sit at or below AED 110,000, a price band that was largely empty two years ago. The list below is ranked by price.

Chevrolet Spark EUV — AED 79,900

The Spark EUV is the cheapest new fully electric car available from an official dealer in the UAE. Chevrolet chose Dubai for its global launch, and it has been in UAE showrooms since summer 2025. It is a compact four-seat urban crossover powered by a 42 kWh liquid-cooled LFP battery, producing 101 hp and 180 Nm of torque. WLTP range is 298 km. DC fast charging takes the battery from 30 to 80 per cent in around 35 minutes. Built on a SAIC-GM platform shared with Baojun, it comes in a single ACTIV trim with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

Buyers should be clear-eyed about what this is. The Spark EUV is a city car, not a family SUV. Its 298 km WLTP range will shrink further in UAE heat with air conditioning running. It suits urban drivers covering short daily distances who want the lowest possible entry cost into new EV ownership.

BYD Sealion 5 DM-i — from AED 89,900

The Sealion 5 DM-i uses BYD’s DM-i system, the brand’s electric-first plug-in hybrid technology marketed in the UAE as Super Hybrid. It is not a pure EV, but most UAE drivers will cover the majority of their weekly distance on electricity alone. At AED 89,900, it matches petrol rivals on price and undercuts them significantly on running costs. It suits buyers not yet confident in the UAE charging network or those who drive regularly between emirates.

Smart #1 — from AED 99,900

Smart is a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely. The #1 is a fully electric compact SUV with a premium interior finish, sitting just inside AED 100,000. WLTP range reaches up to 440 km. The Mercedes-Benz connection carries weight for buyers who want a quality signal at a budget price point.

MG 4 Electric — from AED 103,000

The MG 4 is the only electric hatchback in this list. A smaller footprint means easier parking and lower kerb weight. The 51 kWh base battery delivers up to 350 km of WLTP range. Buyers who want more distance can step up to the 64 kWh variant, which extends that to 465 km. MG is owned by SAIC Motor, which provides the manufacturing scale to price it aggressively without cutting corners on quality.

Smart #3 — from AED 109,900

The Smart #3 sits one step above the #1, with a longer body and a sportier roofline. The same Mercedes-Geely engineering applies, with WLTP range of up to 455 km.

Where do the best used EV deals start?

As of April 2026, over 585 used electric vehicles are listed on YallaMotor alone, with further stock on Dubizzle and DubiCars.

The lowest entry point is the Chevrolet Bolt EV. A 2020 GCC-spec example with 12,000 km was listed on YallaMotor in April 2026 for AED 39,000. Chevrolet discontinued the Bolt globally, so parts availability will tighten over time. For a buyer who wants first-hand EV ownership at minimal cost, it remains exceptional value.

Used Nissan Leafs from 2019 to 2021 appear in the AED 45,000 to AED 65,000 range. The Leaf uses passive thermal management without liquid cooling, making its battery more vulnerable to UAE heat than competing models. Any high-mileage example requires a battery health check before purchase.

The most compelling value in the market is the used Tesla Model Y. A 2022 GCC-spec Long Range with approximately 95,000 km was listed for AED 86,999 on YallaMotor in April 2026. A new Model Y starts at AED 190,000. At less than half price, the used Model Y represents exceptional value if the battery health checks out. Tesla’s over-the-air update system continues to deliver software improvements to older vehicles, setting it apart from most rivals at this price. Used Tesla Model 3 stock ranges from around AED 110,000 for a 2022 example to AED 147,000 for a near-new 2025 car.

What should you check before buying a used EV?

Battery State of Health is the single most important factor. It measures what percentage of the original capacity remains. A well-maintained EV with 80,000 km in a moderate climate typically retains 85 to 90 per cent. UAE heat accelerates degradation, so expect slightly lower figures for high-mileage examples.

Tesla owners can access battery health data via the Tesla app. BYD vehicles require an authorised service centre diagnostic. Nissan Leafs display capacity bars on the dashboard. For all other brands, request a diagnostic report before committing. A seller who refuses is a clear warning sign.

Confirm GCC specification before purchasing. GCC-spec vehicles are engineered for Gulf operating conditions, with reinforced cooling and higher ambient temperature tolerances. Non-GCC imports can void warranty and insurance coverage and degrade faster in the heat. Check whether battery warranty remains active too. Most UAE manufacturers cover the battery for eight years or 160,000 km, and that coverage should factor directly into your offer price.

Is a cheap EV worth buying in the UAE?

For most buyers, yes. Charging at home costs around AED 0.05 per kilometre. A petrol equivalent runs at AED 0.16 to AED 0.18. Over 20,000 km a year, that gap saves AED 2,200 to AED 2,600 annually, before accounting for the lower maintenance costs of an electric drivetrain.

A used EV at AED 75,000 with solid battery health, GCC specification, and home charging in place costs significantly less to own over three to five years than a petrol car at the same purchase price. Follow the checks above, and the numbers speak for themselves.
