Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startup Rox Motor has launched into the Saudi Arabian market, aligning its strategy with the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the region. The announcement was made during the LEAP 2025 event, where the company unveiled its all-terrain hybrid SUV, the Rox 01. The car created quite a buzz, quickly racking up over 200 pre-orders from local customers.
Rox Motor’s venture in Saudi Arabia is bolstered by the opening of its inaugural showroom in An Nasin, Riyadh, in collaboration with the Laith Al Obaidi Group. To further enhance its presence, a flagship showroom on Khurais Road is expected to launch later this month. Since its establishment in January 2021, Rox Motor has been rapidly expanding its portfolio, having introduced the Rox 01 as its flagship model in August 2023.
The Rox 01 is positioned as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) with a competitive pricing of RMB 299,900 (equivalent to approximately $41,050) in China, placing it amongst competitors such as Li Auto’s Li L8. The vehicle stands out with its remarkable specifications, including a combined range of up to 1,100 kilometres and acceleration capabilities that take it from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in just 5.5 seconds. These attributes suggest a strong potential for the Rox 01 to resonate with Saudi consumers, as the market for electric vehicles continues to evolve.
Rox Motor aims to tap into the opportunities presented by Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiatives, positioning itself strategically within the automotive sector of the future. The company has ambitious plans to launch a new global model by the end of the year, following a strategy of introducing one new model each year to sustain its growth trajectory.
Currently, Rox Motor boasts a presence in more than 20 countries, including notable markets such as Qatar, Kazakhstan, and the United Arab Emirates. The company has achieved significant milestones in international markets, reporting over 10,000 orders for the Rox 01 globally. In December 2024, Rox Motor celebrated a record high of 1,268 unit deliveries, marking the sixth consecutive month of growth in their delivery figures. This solid growth reflects both the demand for electric vehicles and Rox Motor’s increasing footprint in the competitive global automotive industry.
As the landscape of electric vehicle offerings continues to expand, Rox Motor could be entering the Kingdom at just the right time.
