Toyota drops a caravan on its electric Hilux

Toyota UK dropped a caravan on its new electric pickup to find out if the Hilux is still indestructible.

In 2003, Top Gear famously failed to kill a Toyota Hilux. Toyota UK has now set the battery-electric version a new test. Reddit users chose between a one-tonne wrecking ball and a caravan drop, and the caravan won. At Bentwaters airfield in Suffolk, a caravan weighing more than 760kg fell 30 feet onto the truck. The electric Hilux took some bodywork damage, then powered up and drove away. Its dual motors produce 208 kW, and its 59.2 kWh battery gives up to 160 miles of WLTP range. Toyota has now handed the truck to Top Gear’s YouTube channel for more testing.
