Subaru used the 2026 New York International Auto Show to introduce the Getaway, a three-row, all-electric flagship SUV that expands the marque’s battery-electric line-up and is aimed at buyers seeking family practicality alongside sporty performance. According to Subaru’s announcement, the Getaway seats up to seven and presents a clean, horizontal interior design intended to emphasise cabin space and comfort.
Mechanically the Getaway is built around a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive arrangement Subaru calls Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, producing 420 horsepower and giving Subaru’s most powerful production vehicle to date a claimed 0-60 mph time of under five seconds. Industry coverage notes the model outperforms its closely related Toyota Highlander EV twin in straight-line acceleration.
Range and energy storage are central to Subaru’s pitch: the Getaway fits a 95.8 kWh battery pack and is credited with more than 300 miles of range per charge, roughly 482 kilometres, while the company highlights fast-charging compatibility with the Tesla Supercharger network for broader public charging access.
The cabin is equipped with modern connectivity and comfort features, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch central touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated front seats, heated second and third rows, a wireless charging pad and a panoramic glass roof. Subaru describes the third row as useable for adults and says cargo volume with the third row in place meets everyday needs.
Subaru positions the Getaway as the fourth global BEV in its portfolio, joining the Solterra, Trailseeker and Uncharted, and as a successor in utility to larger petrol-powered models such as the Ascent. The company also emphasises safety, offering EyeSight driver-assist technologies as part of the package.
The manufacturer expects the Getaway to reach US dealers in late 2026, with final pricing to be revealed nearer launch; Subaru’s public materials and early coverage advise that specification and market timing may be refined before retail availability.
