Mercedes-Benz EV sales jump 51% in Q2

Mercedes-Benz posted a sharp rise in battery-electric vehicle deliveries in the second quarter of 2026, with growth spreading across Europe, North America, and India.

What do the Q2 sales figures show?

Mercedes-Benz delivered 511,900 vehicles worldwide in the second quarter. That is a 2% increase year on year. Battery-electric vehicle sales climbed 51% to 52,900 units over the same period.

Total passenger-car sales fell 8% to 417,800 units. The company was working through a series of model transitions during the quarter. However, the electric vehicle figures moved in the opposite direction, driven by demand for the electric GLC and CLA models.

How did Europe and Germany perform?

Europe recorded a 4% rise in overall sales. Battery-electric deliveries there surged 87% compared with the same quarter in 2025. Consequently, more than 26% of all Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in Europe were fully electric.

Germany was a particular bright spot. Electric-car sales there more than doubled. As a result, Mercedes-Benz reached a battery-electric market share of 24% in its home country. That is a significant shift in the brand’s domestic profile.

What happened in North America and other markets?

North America posted strong results. Sales rose 13% to 91,300 vehicles, with the GLE among the key contributors. Mercedes-Benz USA reported 84,500 retail sales in the quarter. That total included 75,000 passenger cars and 9,500 vans. The GLE posted nearly 30% growth in the period.

Meanwhile, India delivered record second-quarter and first-half sales for the local arm. Battery-electric vehicles accounted for 14% of quarterly sales there. Therefore, demand for Mercedes-Benz electric models is broadening well beyond its traditional strongholds.

How is China performing for Mercedes-Benz?

China told a more mixed story. Mercedes-Benz retained the top position in the ultra-luxury segment above RMB 1 million. However, its Top-End division fell 10% to 58,100 units in the quarter.

The G-Class provided some relief. It recorded a 3% global increase in deliveries. In addition, the van business remained steady, with quarterly sales of 94,100 units across the group’s commercial line-up.

What is coming in the second half of 2026?

Mercedes-Benz is preparing a broad product push for the remainder of the year. New launches include an all-electric GLC and a refreshed S-Class. The group has previously confirmed that more than 40 new models are due by 2027. Consequently, the pace of new product arrivals is set to accelerate.

The Q2 electric results give the company a solid base to build on. Europe’s 87% surge in battery-electric deliveries shows that consumer demand is responding to the current model range. As a result, the second half of 2026 will test whether new launches can sustain that momentum across more markets.
