Abu Dhabi’s driverless racers take Imola

Five racing cars, 12 laps of Imola and nobody behind any of the wheels.

The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League took its driverless racers to Italy’s Imola circuit on 5 September. It was the league’s first race outside the UAE. Five university and research teams ran identical EAV-25 cars, so software decided the result. PoliMOVE set the day’s top speed of 252.3 km/h. Unimore’s car then slowed with a technical fault, and PoliMOVE hit its rear. The crash ended the race for both. Emirati team Kinetiz took the lead and held it to the flag, ahead of Germany’s Constructor Racing. The league’s season finale returns to Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
