GAC GS7 plug-in hybrid arrives in the UAE with 501hp

Gargash Motors has launched the GAC GS7 plug-in hybrid SUV in the UAE, priced from AED 159,900. With 501hp and a claimed combined range of 1,020km, the full-size five-seater puts GAC up against the Chinese plug-in hybrid rivals already competing on range across the Emirates.

What powers the GS7 plug-in hybrid?

The GS7 uses GAC’s third-generation hybrid system. Moreover, it pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 36.3kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery.

Together, the system produces a combined 501hp. Power reaches all four wheels through GAC’s Intelligent Electric all-wheel-drive setup and a six-in-one transmission.

According to GAC’s estimate, the SUV can reach 100km/h from rest in 5.8 seconds. In addition, the manufacturer rates top speed at 185km/h.

Drivers can choose between Comfort, Sport, Eco and Off-road modes. As a result, the GS7 should adapt to varied conditions.

How far can it travel on a charge and a tank?

GAC estimates the GS7 can cover up to 1,020km on a combined petrol and electric cycle under CLTC testing. That figure is a manufacturer estimate.

Once the battery runs flat, fuel use is rated at 6.5 litres per 100km under the WLTC cycle. Furthermore, the SUV carries a 50-litre fuel tank.

This mix of electric running and petrol backup should suit longer journeys between emirates. Meanwhile, owners can rely on electric power for shorter daily trips.

How big is the GS7?

The GS7 measures 4,900mm long, 1,950mm wide and 1,780mm tall. Its wheelbase stretches to 2,880mm.

Despite the full-size footprint, GAC has configured the GS7 as a five-seater. So there is no third row here.

Outside, the SUV rides on 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 255/50 R20 tyres. Equipment also includes AI headlights, GAC’s Skyline front light strip and electrically operated hidden door handles.

Additionally, the GS7 gets soft-close doors, a powered tailgate with memory function and heated power-folding mirrors.

What is the cabin like?

Inside, the GS7 features Nappa leather seats, soft headrests and a suede roof lining. Moreover, ventilation and massage functions cover four seats.

The second-row backrests recline to 137 degrees and include a memory function. A panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade and configurable RGB ambient lighting also feature.

On the technology side, the GS7 carries a 15.6-inch central display, an 8.88-inch digital cluster and a 27-inch head-up display. In addition, a four-zone voice-recognition system lets occupants control selected functions by voice.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included. Furthermore, a 22-speaker, 1,640-watt audio system and dual-pane acoustic glass aim to keep the cabin quiet.

What safety kit does it carry?

The GS7 comes with 10 airbags plus a broad set of driver-assistance systems. These include Lane Centering Control, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, and Forward Collision Warning.

The list also covers Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Collision Warning and Emergency Lane Keeping Assist. In addition, the SUV offers Adaptive Cruise Control, Electronic Stability Control and tyre-pressure monitoring.

A 360-degree HD camera system includes a transparent chassis view. Consequently, drivers gain better visibility around and beneath the vehicle when manoeuvring. GAC has also fitted Fusion Automatic Parking Assist.

What does it cost and where can you buy it?

The GS7 plug-in hybrid is priced at AED 159,900 in the UAE. Therefore, it undercuts some larger premium rivals while matching Chinese entrants on range claims.

Buyers can find the SUV at Gargash GAC Motor showrooms in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah. Customer test drives are already available.

How does this launch sit within the wider market?

Chinese brands have pushed hard on plug-in hybrids in the UAE, and range is now a key selling point. The GS7 adds another contender to a crowded field.

With its claimed 1,020km combined range and 501hp, the GS7 targets drivers who want electric flexibility without range worries. Ultimately, its price should help GAC broaden its electrified line-up in the region.
