Geely Galaxy M9 targets global premium market

Geely has launched the Galaxy M9, its flagship luxury SUV, as the brand doubles down on premium new energy vehicles. Designed to rival established global players, the M9 blends long-range hybrid performance, high-end tech, and a focus on safety.

What is the Galaxy M9?

The Galaxy M9 is the top-tier model in Geely’s Galaxy line, which is dedicated to plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles. Built on the NordThor Super Hybrid platform, it delivers a combined range of over 1300km, with a pure electric range of more than 200km. It aims to meet the demands of long-distance drivers while cutting emissions.

Powering the M9 is a dual-motor system paired with a high-efficiency petrol engine. It reaches 46.5% thermal efficiency, one of the highest in the industry, helping reduce fuel consumption without sacrificing performance.

AI-driven safety and autonomous features

Tech is central to the M9. The SUV is equipped with Geely’s next-gen driver assistance system, featuring dual lidar, high-res cameras, and predictive AI. The system reportedly detects potential hazards up to 500 metres ahead with 99.2% accuracy in urban settings, beating many rivals on lane-keeping and environmental awareness.

The vehicle also includes Highway NOA, Urban NCA, and fully automated parking, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. The Galaxy AI assistant adds voice control and intuitive navigation to the mix, aiming for a smoother, more personalised driving experience.

Interior and design choices

Inside, the M9 uses a 2+2+2 three-row seating layout. The back row offers 900mm of legroom, allowing full-sized adults to travel comfortably. Traditional mechanical door handles are retained for reliability, but integrated with smart keyless entry. The vehicle achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.29Cd, thanks to sleek bodywork and careful aero design.

High ground clearance and bold multi-spoke alloy wheels give it both a premium look and all-terrain capability. While the M9 is styled for urban luxury, it’s ready for varied road conditions.

Safety under the spotlight

Battery safety is a growing concern in the EV market, and Geely has responded with the Shield Battery Safety System. The setup goes beyond national standards, protecting against overheating, impact, and system failure. It reflects Geely’s wider goal to lead on safety in the hybrid and EV sector.

Energy efficiency on demand

A smart energy management system underpins the M9’s long range, learning from user behaviour and driving conditions in real time. This AI-based system adjusts energy distribution across the powertrain to maximise efficiency, helping extend battery life and cut emissions.

More models to come

The Galaxy M9 is the start of something bigger. Geely plans to roll out a full range of Galaxy models aimed at global markets. The company has already committed to building out both plug-in hybrid and pure electric platforms under the Galaxy brand.

With the M9, Geely is making a clear statement: it’s not just playing catch-up in the premium EV space — it wants to lead.
