Denza brings exciting models to market

Denza, a subsidiary brand of Chinese EV behemoth BYD, has been busy launching a variety of new models.  And they really are spicing up the market in China, to start with.  Expect Denza to become more of a household name in international markets over the course of the coming year.

BYD Denza N9

The BYD Denza N9, a flagship plug-in hybrid SUV, has recently made its debut in China. It will come with a price tag between 389,800 to 449,800 yuan, around USD54,000 to USD62,000.

Powering the Denza N9 is an innovative e3 three-electric-motor system, part of BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 that underpins its New Electric Vehicle (NEV) range. This setup includes a front AC asynchronous motor boasting a formidable output of 268hp and 315 Nm of torque. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with rear dual motors that each deliver 322hp and 360 Nm of torque, summing to an impressive total output of 590hp.

Integrating a 2.0T engine that produces 204hp, the Denza N9 provides substantial performance capabilities. A 46.9 kWh Blade battery pack grants a pure electric range of 202 km (based on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle), and a combined range, when utilising its hybrid system, extends to 1,302 km. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in just 3.9 seconds, underlining its sporty edge. Fast charging technology allows the SUV to recharge from 30% to 80% within approximately 19 minutes.

In terms of design, the Denza N9 exudes a modern and striking aesthetic. Featuring a prominent front fascia with a bold hexagonal grille accented by chrome, the vehicle’s sleek LED headlamps create a fierce visage. The side profile showcases aerodynamic contours enriched with chrome detailing and flush door handles, presenting a polished exterior. The rear of the SUV features a continuous LED taillight strip, further emphasising its futuristic persona, while elements like the integrated exhaust outlets and skid plate enhance its rugged appeal.

The Denza N9 measures 5,258mm in length, 2,030mm in width, and 1,830mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,125mm. The boot capacity stands at a functional 351 litres. The versatile seating configuration offers a practical 6+6+6 layout, effortlessly accommodating six passengers alongside six suitcases and six backpacks.

Inside, the cabin of the Denza N9 is characterized by spaciousness and high-quality materials. The interior features a stylish 2+2+2 seating arrangement, with leather upholstery available in grey and white tones. The second-row seats introduce 14-way electric adjustments and are outfitted with small tables, wireless charging, ventilation, heating, and even massage functions. The third-row seating can be adjusted in six ways and comes with heating options, enhancing passenger comfort. A cleverly integrated rear section includes an 11-litres refrigerator with heating and cooling capabilities.

From a technological standpoint, the Denza N9 is equipped with a suite of advanced features. Prominent among them is the DiLink 150 System, alongside a 17.3-inch 2.5K central control floating screen and a 13.2-inch co-pilot screen. The SUV also has a 50-inch AR-HUD and an array of sensory technology, including 128-line Lidar, five millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 14 cameras to bolster its Advanced Driving Assistance System (DiPilot 300). Automatic parking assistance and emergency lane-keeping assist are part of its safety features.

One of the standout innovations is the “God’s Eye Drone System”, developed in collaboration with DJI. This integrated drone system facilitates aerial views and enhanced monitoring capabilities, controlled via the vehicle’s central infotainment system. Such features not only elevate the driving experience but also enable photography and surveillance while on the move.

It will likely face competition from established premium SUV models such as the Volvo XC90 Recharge, Range Rover PHEV, Lexus LX 700h, and others. As the market continues to evolve, the Denza N9’s entry is keenly awaited by both consumers and industry experts alike, with more developments anticipated in the coming weeks.

There’s Also The New Denza Z9GT

The Denza Z9GT is a new luxury vehicle that marries an elegant design with advanced smart technologies aimed at elevating customer experience. Designed under the tutelage of renowned automotive designer Wolfgang Egger, the Z9GT is characterised by its flowing lines and golden proportions that deliver a balance of elegance and dynamism.

Structurally, the car’s front presents a simple yet impactful aesthetic, while its sides showcase a smooth silhouette reminiscent of silk. At the rear, its muscular form underscores the vehicle’s width and stability, further accentuated by hourglass-shaped taillights that create a cohesive visual connection with the front end.

The interior of the Z9GT is reminiscent of a luxurious limousine, boasting high-quality finishes such as premium leather and lightly smoked wood. Passengers can enjoy an impressive range of seating features; the front seats offer 12-way adjustments with both massage and ventilation options, while the rear seats are equally well-equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functionalities.

A central 17.3-inch screen, paired with a DEVIALET audio system featuring 20 speakers, enhances the in-car entertainment experience, complemented by an additional ultra-wide 13.2-inch screen for the front passenger’s interactive use.

Noteworthy interior features include a refrigerator compartment capable of cooling its contents to temperatures as low as -6°C, a four-zone fresh air system, and an expansive 2.1 m² panoramic glass roof fitted with a sunshade.

At the core of the Z9GT is the innovative e³ platform exclusive to DENZA. This platform introduces remarkable features such as an independent three-motor transmission and an independent two-motor steering system positioned at the rear wheels. These enhancements not only facilitate precise control over the vehicle’s movement but also significantly bolster safety by allowing rapid responses to critical driving situations.

In terms of performance, the electric variant of the Z9GT boasts impressive acceleration capabilities, going from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately three seconds. It achieves this with a front motor outputting 230 kW, while each of the rear motors can reach speeds of up to 21,000 rpm with a combined peak power of 240 kW. Additionally, the Super DM hybrid edition is equipped with a maximum output of 200 kW, alongside a torque of 315 Nm and a maximum speed of 20,000 rpm.

The dual-motor steering system at the rear offers exceptional manoeuvrability, reducing the vehicle’s turning radius to a mere 4.62 meters, an advantage for a vehicle of its size measuring 5.2 meters long. The functionality of the rear wheels is intricate, operating in three distinct configurations:

The Z9GT is slated to launch in Europe in the last quarter of 2025, with specific modifications aimed at European consumers. DENZA is preparing to introduce an initial lineup of three models in Europe, with the Z9GT positioned as the flagship offering. In the Chinese market, the vehicle starts at 334,800 yuan (approximately USD45,000), with prices for premium versions reaching up to USD52,000.
