BYD opens new showroom in Jeddah

BYD, the world’s leading manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), has expanded its presence in Saudi Arabia with the opening of a new showroom in Jeddah. This marks the company’s second showroom in the Kingdom, following the launch of its first in Riyadh earlier this year. The move is part of BYD’s broader strategy to support the country’s push towards sustainable mobility and greener transportation options.

Located in Jeddah’s Auto Mall, the new showroom will serve as a central hub for customers to explore BYD’s range of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The facility offers a hands-on experience for customers to learn more about BYD’s electric models, including the sporty BYD SEAL, the premium BYD HAN, and the compact BYD ATTO 3. In addition, it will showcase plug-in hybrid options like the BYD SONG PLUS and the BYD QIN PLUS.

As Saudi Arabia moves towards a more sustainable future, BYD’s new showroom aims to play a key role in driving the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the region. The Kingdom has been actively promoting the shift to electric mobility, aligning with its Vision 2030 initiative to diversify its economy and reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. With this in mind, BYD’s commitment to the region is a strategic step in encouraging more consumers to make the switch to electric.

BYD’s success in the global EV market is hard to ignore. The company recently celebrated a milestone of 9 million vehicle sales worldwide, solidifying its position as the top-selling NEV manufacturer globally and the leading brand in China, with a market share of 13.5%. This impressive growth reflects BYD’s innovative approach and focus on developing in-house technology, which includes its proprietary Blade Battery and Dual Mode Intelligent (DM-i) system.

Badr Khojandi, General Manager of BYD KSA, commented, “We are thrilled to open our new showroom in Jeddah, a city known for its vibrant community and forward-thinking mindset. We are not only expanding our footprint in Saudi Arabia but also connecting with a market ready to embrace future mobility. Since our launch in the country, the BYD KSA website has seen over 2.5 million visits, and in Jeddah alone, more than 1000 test drives have taken place. These numbers reflect a clear demand for advanced, sustainable driving.”

The Blade Battery, in particular, is considered one of the safest and most efficient battery technologies on the market. It has become a key selling point for BYD, especially as battery safety and performance remain critical factors for consumers considering electric vehicles. Meanwhile, the DM-i technology enhances the performance and range of BYD’s plug-in hybrids, further appealing to drivers who are transitioning to electric but still desire the flexibility of a hybrid powertrain.

Partnering with Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility Company, BYD’s expansion into Jeddah follows a broader regional strategy to make electric mobility more accessible. The “Closer to You” campaign is designed to bring electric vehicles directly to consumers, making it easier for them to engage with and adopt this technology.

Badr Khojandi continued: “Being a data driven company with a strong focus on customer-centricity, we regularly run Brand Surveys, and the results have shown that we are ahead of many established Japanese and American brands and other Chinese automakers in key areas like ‘making technically advanced cars’ and ‘attractive interior design’ – with the brand equity and awareness distinctively driven by Jeddah’s audience. We’re confident that BYD’s range of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will continue to resonate strongly with Jeddah’s dynamic, tech-savvy community.”

Al-Futtaim’s role in KSA goes beyond just selling cars. The company offers a full ecosystem for electric vehicle owners, providing 96% of certified parts locally and ensuring vehicles are serviced by highly trained technicians. This level of support is essential for building consumer confidence in the relatively new electric vehicle market in Saudi Arabia.
