Rolls-Royce unveils all-electric Black Badge Spectre

Rolls-Royce has unveiled what it confidently describes as the most powerful model in its storied history, the all-electric Black Badge Spectre super-coupe. Priced at £320,000 (around AED1.5m), this ambitious vehicle combines cutting-edge electric technology with a unique homage to British aviation history. It offers an acceleration time from 0 to 60mph in a mere 4.1 seconds, showcasing a performance boost over the standard Spectre model.

The Black Badge Spectre is positioned as a luxury vehicle for affluent customers who might be characterised as ‘fearless’ and ‘unconventional’. The company has tailored the model to appeal to those seeking a vehicle that not only meets their need for opulence but also allows for a glimpse into their ‘alter-ego’. The marketing focuses on a sense of rebellion and rule-breaking, and the car has been designed for clients who resonate with these ideals. Let’s see who actually ends up buying it…

At the heart of its remarkable performance, the Black Badge Spectre incorporates two significant features inspired by the legendary Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, which powered the iconic Spitfire during World War II. The first is an ‘Infinity Mode’ button that, when engaged, releases the full 659 horsepower, enhancing throttle response. “Once this mode is activated, the dials become more vibrant to match the change in the motor car’s character,” the company notes.

Additionally, the Spectre features a launch-control function referred to as ‘Spirited Mode’. This feature allows drivers to achieve a peak torque of 1,075Nm, unleashing an intense burst of acceleration when activating the system by pressing the brake and throttle simultaneously. Such engineering developments indicate a strong focus on performance, while the Rolls-Royce promise of ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ comfort remains intact.

The Black Badge Spectre also boasts a commendable electric range varying from 306 to 329 miles. Its battery can be charged to 80% in just 34 minutes with a high-powered DC charger, making it versatile for both urban and longer journeys.

In terms of design, the vehicle measures a substantial 5.5 metres long and weighs nearly three tonnes. It sits on eye-catching 23-inch wheels and presents an aggressive aesthetic with a colour palette that includes the vibrant Vapour Violet, drawing inspiration from neon club culture of the 1980s and 1990s.

Rolls-Royce has conducted a thorough research and development process for the new model, enlisting feedback from a select group of existing owners who provided insights based on their driving experiences with earlier Black Badge models. This ‘clandestine agreement’ with loyal customers allowed the company to refine the Black Badge Spectre to meet their high standards.

Inside, the Black Badge Spectre features a lavish and technology-rich environment with bespoke touches, hand-finished materials, and illuminated instrument dials, allowing customers to select from a variety of colour themes. With its focus on luxury and performance, the model embodies the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship while integrating modern technology, including a digital operating system that facilitates remote charging access and interaction with the exclusive Rolls-Royce digital community, Whispers.

The combination of performance, luxurious design, and innovative technology places the Black Badge Spectre at the forefront of the electric vehicle market, especially aimed at discerning individuals in regions like the UAE and Saudi Arabia, where the demand for premium electric options continues to grow.
