Audi has announced the introduction of more than 20 new models between 2024 and 2025, with over 10 electric vehicles, marking a significant shift in their strategy.
The German automaker’s ambitious plan includes the unveiling of the Audi A5 family, which took place on July 16, to replace the A4 model.
The highly anticipated Audi A5 will debut in both Sportback and Avant forms. A teaser sketch released by Audi showcases the rear end of the A5 Avant, which features full-width tail lights, expected to include the latest OLED technology. The design also boasts a sporty appearance with an inclined rear glass and a prominent spoiler. Spy photographers have already captured images of lightly camouflaged prototypes, indicating a more sculpted bodywork and aggressive LED headlights framing a slimmer grille. There have also been sightings of the performance-oriented S5 Sportback and RS5 Avant variants, the latter distinguished by an extensive body kit.
Gernot Döllner, Audi’s CEO, has emphasised the efficiency improvements in the upcoming model family. “The new A5 family will mark the beginning of the next generation of combustion engines, which will be more efficient thanks to partially electric driving.” This suggests that the A5 range will include mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with plug-in versions aiming to achieve over 100 km (62 miles) of zero-emission range. Interestingly, the MLB-based Audi A5 will not include a fully electric version, as Audi plans a separate fully electric A4 for the future.
The end of July will also see the introduction of the fully electric Audi A6 e-tron, which will be available in Sportback and Avant body styles from day one. According to Döllner, this model will feature a “striking design” paired with “outstanding performance, efficiency, and range,” cementing Audi’s commitment to EV innovation.
This autumn, Audi plans to launch the third generation of its popular Q5 SUV. This model will kick off the “rejuvenation” of Audi’s SUV lineup, offering both combustion and partially electrified powertrains. The unveiling of the Q5 will follow the recently introduced Q6 e-tron, showcasing Audi’s ongoing efforts to diversify its product portfolio.

Adding to this extensive strategy, Döllner stated: “Over the coming years, we will expand our range of electric models step by step. At the same time, we will rejuvenate our portfolio of models with combustion engines. This will give us a robust and flexible position as we transition to an all-electric portfolio.”
With such a wide array of new models set to launch, Audi is positioning itself at the forefront of automotive innovation, balancing advancements in electric mobility with continued improvements in traditional combustion engine efficiency. The brand’s comprehensive strategy signals a new era of dynamic driving experiences designed to cater to diverse consumer preferences in rapidly evolving automotive markets.
