Al-Futtaim Lexus launches UX 300h in the UAE

Lexus makes very good cars and the 2024 UX 300h is no exception.  This compact crossover is now available in the UAE and is a great addition to the range of smaller luxury hybrids here. Blending advanced, greener technologies with the distinctive Lexus design, the new vehicle represents a good option for environmentally responsible luxury driving. With a starting price of AED 170,000, this model could well be very attractive to the discerning UAE market.

The UX 300h is the latest expansion of the Lexus’ luxury hybrid SUV range, joining the ranks of the acclaimed RXh and NXh models. It’s a continued declaration of Lexus’s commitment to performance without compromise.

Jacques Brent, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim Lexus, said: “Lexus pioneered the luxury hybrid SUV segment and has maintained its leadership in this space over the decades. The introduction of the Lexus UX 300h to our luxury hybrid product range in the United Arab Emirates brings even more choice for sustainable, low-emissions motoring to our customers. This stylish, compact and greener SUV is the perfect choice for drivers who want Lexus luxury and quality with the Omotenashi ownership experience at an accessible price point, and we are extremely excited to share it with our customers in the Emirates.”

Performance

The UX 300h is powered by a new fifth-generation hybrid system, which ups the ante of hybrid performance. The system pairs a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder gas engine with a duo of motor-generators, which are seamlessly integrated through a planetary-type continuously variable transmission (CVT). Even though it sounds a little baffling, this clever engineering ensures responsive and agile performance while also offering an exemplary energy efficiency with a manufacturer-estimated fuel consumption of 24 km/L.

Notable is the introduction of shift-by-wire technology. This converts physical shift operations into electronic signals. The result? A smoother, quicker shifting experience, enhancing the overall drive. The UX 300h further boasts a decent 0-100 km/h acceleration in 8.0 seconds – not as quick as many equivalent pure EVs, but certainly not too shabby.

The Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 also comes standard, equipping the UX 300h with an array of active safety features that bolster confidence on the road.

Lexus design

The exterior of the UX 300h is a nod to Lexus’s familiar design philosophy. The iconic spindle grille is adorned with a mesh pattern that changes as it radiates from the central Lexus emblem.

The headlamp design completes the UX 300h’s face with LED daytime running lights arranged in an arrowhead motif above the headlights to complement the Lexus L-shaped lighting signature.

The official launch press release waxes poetic about the car: “The vehicle’s basic form flows out from the lines of the spindle grille to envelop the cabin. Crisp, prominent sculpted surfaces and dramatically flared front and rear fenders reflect the robust inspiration, while an aerodynamic profile, large wheels pushed to the corners, and an impressive front fascia create the agile, sporty stance.” Who could resist!?

But, this design isn’t actually just for show; every aspect is intentional, contributing to the vehicle’s performance. Wheel arch mouldings protect the body from debris and enhance airflow to reduce turbulence. The Aero Stabilizing Blade Lights and the wing-type spoiler at the rear edge of the roof improve stability and reduce turbulence, contributing to the UX 300h’s quiet and efficient ride.

For 2024 a new color option, Sonic Copper, has also been added.

Interior

The interior of the UX 300h is very comfortable, reflecting Lexus’s human-centred approach. The cabin, reminiscent of a luxury sedan but with the versatility of a crossover, provides a high seating position and an expansive view of the road.

An 8-way power-adjustable front seat with lumbar support for the driver and a host of other premium features make for an indulgent driving environment.

The dash trim finish for the Premier and F SPORT Design models is inspired by the grain of Japanese paper, known as washi. It’s common in traditional Japanese homes and evokes a calm and warm feeling. NuLuxe®-trimmed seating is offered in a choice of four colors, including Black, Ochre, White Ash and Cobalt, F SPORT grade offers an exclusive seat in Black and Flare Red.

In-car tech

Tech features prominently in the US 300h refined  interior. The F SPORT model boasts a 12.3-inch multi-information display as standard, while the Premier Grade comes with an 8-inch display. Both are touchscreens with customizable layouts, offering a clear and intuitive interface for the driver and front-seat passenger.

Four USB-C ports and one multimedia USB-A port address all charging needs. And Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities allow drivers and passengers to connect mobile devices, ensuring constant connectivity.

The Lexus Connect app further extends the UX 300h’s functionality, allowing drivers to lock or unlock the doors, start the engine, adjust climate controls, and more, all from their smartphone.

All-in-all, with the UX 300h Lexus has delivered a high-quality, attractive hybrid car.
