The UAEV (United Arab Emirates Vehicle), the government owned charging network, has announced significant changes to its electric vehicle (EV) charging tariffs. The new pricing structure, which came into effect in January 2025, will see DC charging stations priced at Dh1.20 per kWh plus VAT, while AC charging will be offered at Dh0.70 per kWh, also plus VAT.
This change represents the first implementation of charging fees since UAEV launched its services in May, during which time EV charging had been free of charge.
These updates come as part of a broader initiative to enhance the sustainability and scalability of the UAE’s EV charging infrastructure. To improve user experience, UAEV is launching a new mobile application, which will enable users to locate the nearest charging stations, receive live updates on station availability, and access convenient payment options.
In addition to the app, UAEV is establishing a dedicated 24/7 call centre to provide immediate support and assistance to EV drivers, ensuring that help is readily available whenever needed. Sharif Al Olama, Chairman of UAEV, commented, “The implementation of standardised charging tariffs, coupled with the launch of the UAEV app and around-the-clock customer support, underscores our commitment to improving the EV driver experience. By expanding our network and aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, we are paving the way for a cleaner, greener future.”
Looking to the future, UAEV aims to expand its network to include 1,000 charging stations by 2030. These stations will be strategically positioned across urban hubs, highways, and key transit points throughout the UAE to ensure that EV users have easy access to charging facilities, whether they are travelling within cities or between them. This expansion is expected to further facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles in the region, aligning with the UAE’s long-term sustainability goals.
