DEWA and Parkin to set up new charging stations

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced plans to install new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in collaboration with Parkin Company PJSC, the leading provider of paid public parking facilities in Dubai. These new charging stations are set to be operational in the first quarter of 2025 and will feature alternating current (AC) with a capacity of 22 kilowatts each, accommodating two parking spaces per station.

According to a report by WAM, the strategically selected on-street parking locations for these charging stations will be situated in zones A and C. These zones have been identified due to their proximity to high-density residential communities that currently have limited or no access to electric vehicle charging facilities. This move aims to enhance the availability of EV infrastructure within the city, making it easier for residents and workers to charge their electric vehicles conveniently.

The charging stations will integrate seamlessly with Parkin’s app, allowing customers to handle both the EV charging tariff and parking fees within a single transaction. This user-friendly approach is expected to boost the use of EV chargers and parking spaces, thus increasing overall efficiency and revenue for the stakeholders involved.

DEWA currently operates a broad network of approximately 740 EV Green Chargers across Dubai, with plans to expand this number to 1,000 by the end of the year. The EV charger initiative, originally launched in 2014, was developed in response to the increasing demand for electric vehicles in the region, and aims to establish a robust framework for EV users.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, expressed the organisation’s commitment to enhancing green mobility through the promotion of eco-friendly electric vehicles. He stated, “We continue to strengthen green mobility by promoting the use of eco-friendly electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector. This aligns with the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33, both of which aim to make Dubai the city offering the best living experience.” Al Tayer emphasized that the partnership with Parkin is part of DEWA’s efforts to deliver advanced EV charging infrastructure, creating a seamless experience through state-of-the-art facilities.

Eng. Mohamed Al Ali, CEO of Parkin, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in facilitating the transition to electric vehicles across the Emirate. “Parkin plays a critical role in enabling the transition to EVs throughout the Emirate. The installation of green chargers in key locations will enhance our world-class facilities, unlock new growth opportunities, and incentivize EV adoption,” he remarked. He further added that the shared vision of both DEWA and Parkin to support sustainable mobility aligns closely with the environmental and social goals set forth by the leadership of the UAE.

This partnership not only reflects an investment in ecological infrastructure but also signifies Dubai’s enduring commitment to becoming a leading global destination for living, working, and investment.
