The latest Golden Brick battery from Geely claims the fastest charging figures yet seen from a Chinese automaker, with real-world infrastructure now central to the story.
What does the new Golden Brick battery actually do?
Geely has revealed the newest version of its Golden Brick battery. The pack carries a 95 kWh capacity and runs on a 900-volt architecture. Peak charging speed reaches 1,100 kW under ideal conditions.
The company quotes a 10 to 70 per cent charge time of 4 minutes and 22 seconds. A fuller charge from 10 to 97 per cent takes 8 minutes and 42 seconds. Consequently, the battery delivers more than 500 kW at around 80 per cent state of charge. It also sustains over 300 kW near 97 per cent, which is unusually high for that stage of a charge cycle.
Which vehicle will carry this battery first?
The Golden Brick pack will appear first in the Lynk & Co 10 sedan. Lynk & Co is part of the broader Geely group. Therefore, this battery does double duty as both a technical statement and a product launch tool.
Chinese automotive outlets including CarNewsChina and Carscoops reported on the same demonstration. Both noted that the figures place Geely ahead of BYD’s most recent flash-charging claims. However, both publications also pointed out that compatible ultra-fast chargers remain limited in number for now.
How does Geely’s charging network support these figures?
Battery performance on paper only becomes meaningful when the infrastructure can match it. Geely has connected its charging ambitions directly to Zeekr Power, the group’s own charging network.
Zeekr opened its first 800 kW V3 charging station in Ningbo in April 2024. That site has eight charging stalls. Meanwhile, MarkLines reported that Zeekr had more than 900 self-built stations operating at that time. As a result, the group already had a sizeable network in place before this latest battery announcement.
What did earlier tests show about Geely’s charging technology?
The new figures build on previous field tests. Earlier demonstrations used the Zeekr 7X with a previous-generation Golden Brick pack. Those tests showed sub-10-minute charging under favourable conditions.
Reviewers who drove the Zeekr 7X described its charging ability as one of the clearest indicators of how quickly Chinese EV makers are advancing. TechRadar noted that the vehicle’s charging performance stood out during real-world driving assessment. In addition, those tests gave the wider industry a reference point for what premium fast charging now looks like in practice.
What does this mean for the fast-charging race overall?
The contest between Chinese automakers on charging speed has intensified significantly over the past two years. Geely, BYD, and others have each raised their stated peak figures in close succession. For example, each new announcement has come within months of the last.
However, charger rollout remains the harder problem to solve. A battery capable of 1,100 kW is only useful at a station that can deliver that power. Therefore, the real measure of Geely’s progress will come from how quickly Zeekr Power expands its highest-output stations. The pace of that expansion will determine how many drivers can actually experience these figures rather than read about them.
