Geely’s new EX5 EM-i hybrid SUV arrives in the UAE

The EX5 EM-i is Geely’s plug-in hybrid SUV for UAE buyers who want long range and family-sized space at an accessible price.

What is the EX5 EM-i, and how is it positioned?

Geely has launched the EX5 EM-i in the UAE at a starting price of AED 89,900. The model sits in the fast-growing electrified SUV segment. It targets buyers who watch fuel costs closely and need day-to-day practicality.

The EX5 EM-i shares its body with Geely’s fully electric EX5. However, it carries hybrid badging and a discreet exhaust outlet. The exterior design is restrained and modern. Up front, a clean face replaces a conventional grille. Slim lighting elements sharpen the overall look.

How does the cabin use its space?

Geely says the cabin has an 84.3 per cent space utilisation rate. That figure is high for this class. In practice, the interior feels genuinely spacious for a family SUV.

The main control surface is a 15.4-inch touchscreen. It works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless charging is also included. In addition, there is a 10.2-inch digital instrument display and a 13.8-inch head-up display. The sound system has 16 speakers. For UAE conditions, the app-based remote air-conditioning control and ventilated front seats are particularly practical features.

What range and efficiency figures does the EX5 EM-i deliver?

Geely claims a combined driving range of up to 1,065km. The pure-electric range is 170km. These figures come from Geely’s global and UAE product pages. They are the headline numbers for the model globally.

The EM-i Super Hybrid System pairs a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor. Different drive modes manage economy and performance. During a week-long road test reported by Dubicars, the reviewer covered close to 500km and used only just over half a tank. Consequently, real-world range in local conditions could comfortably exceed 900km.

How does the EX5 EM-i perform on the road?

Geely quotes a combined system output of 317 horsepower. UAE market data from Dubicars lists 314 horsepower and 387 Newton metres of torque. The minor difference likely reflects market-specific specification variations. Either way, the SUV reaches 100km/h in 8.2 seconds.

The EX5 EM-i is tuned for comfort. The cabin is quiet and the ride is supple. For example, highway cruising and urban driving are both well-suited to its character. The safety package includes six airbags, adaptive cruise control, a 540-degree camera system, and a broad set of driver-assistance technologies. Therefore, the EX5 EM-i covers the key bases that UAE family buyers typically prioritise.

What do Geely’s launch offers include?

Geely UAE has paired the EX5 EM-i launch with a package of financial incentives. These include free fuel for two years and zero per cent financing options. Free insurance is also part of the offer. In addition, buyers receive long warranty coverage on the vehicle and its battery components.

However, the appeal goes beyond the launch period. The AED 89,900 starting price places the EX5 EM-i well below many electrified SUV rivals in the UAE. As a result, Geely is targeting a broad segment of practical, cost-conscious buyers. The combination of low running costs, strong range, and a well-equipped cabin gives the EX5 EM-i a clear place in the market.
