Polestar’s new long range single motor Polestar 3 has entered the record books after completing the longest journey ever achieved by an electric SUV on a single charge. The production-standard vehicle covered 935.44 km (581.3 miles) on UK public roads, a distance far beyond its official range rating.
The attempt, officially recognised by Guinness World Records, took 22 hours and 57 minutes to complete. Mixed weather conditions, including rain, added to the challenge. Despite this, the Polestar 3 achieved an efficiency of 12.1 kWh/100 km (19.5 kWh/100 miles).
Professional efficiency drivers Sam Clarke, Kevin Booker, and Richard Parker took turns behind the wheel, swapping every three hours to maintain focus. The SUV matched its WLTP range figure of 706 km (438 miles) with 20 percent of the battery capacity still available, before travelling an additional 12.8 km (8 miles) after showing 0 percent battery. It reached a charger before ultimately stopping.
No modifications, full verification
The record drive was completed without any modifications to the car. The Polestar 3 ran on standard 20-inch wheels fitted with Michelin Sport 4 EV tyres.
The attempt was adjudicated by Guinness World Records judge Paulina Sapinska. Data verification came from Webfleet, which supplied video evidence, odometer readings, GPS data, and battery level information. UK roadside assistance organisation the AA provided support.
CEO hails “new standards”
Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller described the achievement as a significant moment for the brand.
“We are very proud to say we have a world record holder in the Polestar family! This official Guinness World Record for range is another proof point that Polestar 3 is setting new standards. We will continue to push the boundaries of technology and electric performance,” he said.
Matt Galvin, Polestar UK Managing Director, said the achievement shows how far EV range has progressed in recent years.
“While the drivers pushed the Polestar 3 to the boundaries of its range capability, it goes to show how battery range has improved exponentially over the past few years. For a large premium SUV to go way beyond a London to Edinburgh distance is truly impressive and with this the adage that ‘EVs can’t go far’ has been very much consigned to the history books.”

Designed for long-distance capability
The Polestar 3 is the Swedish electric performance brand’s first SUV, positioned in the large premium segment. The Long range Single motor variant is aimed at customers seeking maximum distance per charge, without compromising on performance or design.
Polestar says the achievement underlines the potential of modern EV engineering to meet and exceed customer expectations for long-distance travel. The record-setting run demonstrates that, under optimal driving conditions, the Polestar 3 can deliver significantly more than its official test cycle range.
Growing model line-up
Polestar currently offers three models: the Polestar 2 liftback, Polestar 3 SUV, and Polestar 4 SUV coupé. Upcoming launches include the Polestar 5 four-door GT later in 2025, followed by the Polestar 6 roadster and Polestar 7 compact SUV.
The company manufactures vehicles in North America and Asia and plans to expand production to Europe with the Polestar 7.
Sustainability targets
Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, Polestar operates in 28 global markets across North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. The brand has committed to halving per-vehicle greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality across its value chain by 2040.
Its sustainability strategy focuses on four key areas: climate, transparency, circularity, and inclusion. Polestar says these priorities influence every stage of product development, from material sourcing to end-of-life recycling.
Record as a marketing milestone
The new Guinness World Record gives Polestar a clear talking point in an increasingly competitive premium EV market. Range anxiety remains a consideration for many potential EV buyers, and demonstrating such long-distance capability in a real-world scenario is likely to be a strong message for the brand.
With competition intensifying among large electric SUVs, Polestar is positioning the 3 as a vehicle that combines efficiency with performance and design. The official record sets a benchmark not only for the brand but also for the segment, reinforcing the idea that modern EVs can meet long-haul driving needs.
