Emirates Global Motor Electric (EGME) has launched three new SANY electric truck models in the UAE, marking a major leap forward for commercial EVs in the region. The announcement was made at the recent Mobility Live Middle East 2025 event, alongside the reveal of the region’s first mini battery-swapping station.
Now two years into its partnership with SANY, EGME has moved into Phase II of its expansion. The new models are already available in the UAE market, following the success of 40 initial trucks operating with logistics players like DSV, DB Schenker, and Emirates Logistics.
General Manager Hany Tawfik said the fleet has already proven itself in the UAE’s tough climate, laying the groundwork for broader commercial EV adoption.
A closer look at the electric trucks
The headline model, the EV490 electric semi-trailer, is built for heavy-duty tasks. It offers a 100-ton load capacity and a 250km range per charge. Crucially, it can be fully recharged in just one hour.
The battery-swapping system is another highlight. Developed with SANY, the compact SY312 station needs only 40 square metres of space and swaps truck batteries in six minutes. One unit can handle up to 30 trucks, dramatically slashing vehicle downtime.
This tech makes electric fleets more practical and efficient for round-the-clock logistics.
Early market reaction
The trucks generated strong interest at the event, securing 42 intent orders. EGME is also rolling out fleet management software and depot charging systems, giving operators more control over EV performance and maintenance.
Backed by Al Fahim Group
EGME became SANY’s exclusive UAE distributor in September 2023, through a deal signed by Al Fahim Group Chairman Ahmed Al Fahim and SANY Chairman Liang Linhe. EGME is now driving efforts to expand the range to include both light and heavy-duty trucks.
Al Fahim Group’s market reach and industry experience give the venture a strong foundation for scaling.
Why it matters for the region
For logistics, construction, and distribution firms in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, EGME’s trucks offer a compelling case. They combine load power with fast turnaround times and zero tailpipe emissions.
The infrastructure is coming too — smart depots, battery swaps, and fleet optimisation tools make the transition to electric easier and more cost-effective.
Hany Tawfik, General Manager of Emirates Global Motor Electric, commented: “Over the past two years, we’ve not only proven that electric trucks can operate reliably in the UAE, we’ve also laid the foundation for a scalable, smart ecosystem for the growth and adoption of commercially operated electric fleets – across multiple industry sectors.”
EGME’s latest launch isn’t just about new vehicles. It’s about proving that electric trucks can deliver, even in the Gulf.
