Nissan and INFINITI focus on innovation

Nissan and its luxury division, INFINITI, are showing ambition by introducing a range of innovative technologies and models tailored to varied driving needs around the world. The company is moving forward with electrification and diversified powertrains, signalling a transformative period for the brand and its customers.

A central highlight of Nissan’s development is its pioneering e-POWER system, which integrates a small gasoline engine to generate power for an electric motor. This technology aims to provide an electric vehicle experience without the associated range anxiety. The third-generation e-POWER system claims to boost efficiency by 15% at higher speeds, thereby reducing emissions and enhancing the overall driving experience. Notable models set to feature this new system include the Rogue in North America and the Qashqai in Europe, expected to launch by fiscal year 2026.

The All-New Nissan LEAF is receiving a substantial upgrade, evolving into a more spacious crossover built on the CMF-EV platform. With its sleek design, complete with 19-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic moonroof, it is designed for modern families seeking eco-friendly travel solutions. The LEAF aims to improve energy efficiency and extend its driving range, with further details anticipated to be revealed mid-year.

For European markets, the Micra nameplate makes a return as the Micra EV. This compact vehicle embodies urban style and functionality, developed in collaboration with Renault. The Micra EV aims to combine eco-conscious driving with exemplary design, making it appealing for city dwellers.

In the SUV segment, Nissan and INFINITI are catering to adventure enthusiasts with new and refreshed models. The newly introduced INFINITI QX65 crossover coupe represents a luxury offering, while Nissan is gearing up to launch an all-terrain SUV produced in Canton, Mississippi, anticipated to hit the market in fiscal year 2027. For traditionalists, updates to the Pathfinder and Sentra aim to retain their loyal customer base in North America.

Recognising the diverse preferences of global consumers, Nissan’s strategy incorporates regional relevance. The automaker is focusing on the unique demands in different markets, such as rugged pickups and subcompact SUVs in Latin America, and a wave of electrified models like the LEAF and Qashqai in Europe. Various models such as the Ariya and Magnite are being introduced in Oceania and Africa, reflecting Nissan’s commitment to accessible and sustainable mobility solutions. Furthermore, India is preparing for an export increase, bolstered by the “One Car, One World” initiative from the Chennai manufacturing plant.

Nissan’s push for a product renaissance includes a strong emphasis on sustainability and modern design. Notable investments have been made in innovative designs, as seen in the Hyper Punk-inspired Juke, alongside broader sustainability goals. Leadership figures at Nissan, including Guillaume Cartier and Ivan Espinosa, have stated, “This is just the beginning” of an electrified journey set to deliver exceptional performance and leading-edge sophistication.

As the landscape continues to evolve, Nissan’s comprehensive approach to electric powertrains, model diversification, and responsive regional strategies marks an important  moment for the company.
