Kia showcases Concept EV2 at Milan Design Week 2025

Kia unveiled exciting details about its new Concept EV2 at the Milan Design Week 2025 as part of the brand’s Transcend Journey exhibit. This innovative model highlights Kia’s commitment to advancing urban mobility through modern design and sustainable practices.

The Concept EV2, unveiled alongside the EV4 to complete the brand’s core EV lineup (pictured above),  is a B-segment electric SUV.  First introduced during Kia’s EV Day in Barcelona earlier this year in February, it promises a user-centric experience that combines comfort, versatility, and forward-thinking design.

The interior of the Concept EV2 draws inspiration from the ‘picnic in the city’ lifestyle concept, which aims to embody comfort and meaningful space within an urban environment. Kia’s designers have integrated this theme into the vehicle’s architecture, creating an interior that is both spacious and flexible, reflecting the company’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. The design mimics urban balconies and terraces, attempting to provide a calm retreat amid the hustle and bustle of city life.

Notable features of the Concept EV2’s interior include a flat-floor layout that allows for increased cabin flexibility. The front seats can slide back significantly, and secondary seating options can fold or extend, enabling users to transform the space according to their needs. This adaptability enhances not only the practicality of the vehicle but also the potential for leisure activities like impromptu city picnics. Additionally, the vehicle boasts lifestyle-oriented features such as integrated speakers in seat headrests, portable door speakers, and detachable cushions, aimed at maximising user convenience.

In terms of materials, Kia’s focus on environmentally responsible options is evident throughout the Concept EV2. The interior utilises innovative materials including Simplifyber Fybron™, mycelium, and AmpliTex™, all contributing to a circular economy approach. Simplifyber Fybron™ is a cellulose-based compound that serves as a dashboard and door panel material made from renewable sources, markedly reducing reliance on conventional plastics.

For the mycelium components, Kia has partnered with Biomyc to incorporate biodegradable materials into the interior design, creating a visually cohesive environment that aligns with eco-friendly practices. The use of mycelium not only lends a natural aesthetic to the vehicle but also provides essential thermal insulation, enhancing overall cabin comfort.

Kia has also embraced bio-based composites through its collaboration with Bcomp. These composites are now integral to the structural elements of the Concept EV2, allowing for a reduction in the vehicle’s overall weight while ensuring it meets the necessary strength and durability standards. This innovative application aids in fuel efficiency and supports Kia’s vision for sustainable vehicle production and lifecycle management.

The introduction of these environmentally conscious materials aims to deliver a modern driving experience while addressing the expectations of consumers who prioritise sustainability in their purchasing decisions. Kia’s commitment to evolving its design and material usage is indicative of the brand’s intent to lead in the automotive industry’s transition towards greater ecological awareness and innovation.
