Bespoke ultra-luxury car boom in UAE

The UAE’s ultra-luxury car market is rapidly evolving as wealthy younger buyers and professional women demand increasingly personalised vehicles. Despite global eco-friendly trends, bold customisations and performance remain key, while electric models and tech innovations promise to transform the elite segment.

The allure of ultra-luxury vehicles in the UAE is rapidly intensifying, fuelled by an influx of ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) from across the globe. This growing demographic is not just looking for any luxury car; they are seeking personalised, bespoke experiences that reflect their individuality and status. Industry experts highlight a striking trend where younger buyers, often dynamic entrepreneurs and upwardly mobile executives aged between 18 and 29, are reshaping the landscape of the ultra-luxury auto market. As their purchasing power increases, these new clientele are known for frequently changing vehicles, opting for rare models, each tailored to express their unique identities.

Increasingly, women are steering the course of this market. With more women holding senior professional positions, their influence on purchasing decisions has become significant. “Personalisation has of late become the defining element of the ultra-luxury automotive experience [in the UAE],” noted Christophe Caïs, Founder and CEO of CXG, a leading consulting firm focused on luxury brands. The trend toward comprehensive customization manifests in demands for premium features, climate-specific adaptations, and locally-inspired designs, illustrating the nuanced preferences unique to this region.

The factors propelling growth in the UAE’s luxury automotive sector are further bolstered by the country’s highly developed road infrastructure and tax-friendly environment, which collectively create a haven for luxury vehicle manufacturers. Observers note that the SUV segment remains at the forefront due to its versatility, accommodating both urban landscapes and the rugged terrain found in certain areas.

Interestingly, while global trends suggest a shift towards fuel efficiency and eco-friendliness, local customers in the UAE continue to embrace bold displays of wealth and automotive performance. This cultural dynamic allows for a unique consumer environment where customisation options have reached astonishing extremes; vehicles can now feature bespoke elements like diamond-infused paint finishes or exotic leather interiors crafted with lavish embroidery.

This appetite for exclusivity has prompted nearly every ultra-luxury brand to establish dedicated personalisation divisions, enabling an unprecedented level of vehicle customisation. The burgeoning demand for distinctiveness is paving the way for the UAE’s ultra-luxury market to grow at an impressive rate, projected to reach over $20 billion by 2024 and continuing toward an annual growth rate of approximately 5% through 2032.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are also beginning to carve out a space in this elite market. Though still in their infancy, the momentum is building. Major manufacturers are unveiling electric flagship models, with brands such as Rolls-Royce introducing the Spectre and Ferrari developing the eagerly awaited Elettrica. Meanwhile, initiatives like Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund investing in local production with Lucid Motors and the UAE enhancing its EV infrastructure are pivotal trends facilitating wider adoption.

As experts forecast the next few years, innovation, particularly in the EV sector, is expected to surge. “Asian luxury brands like BYD will intensify competition, while autonomous driving technologies gradually penetrate the market,” Caïs stated. He further emphasised that brands aiming to excel will need to focus on elevated customer experiences. This will involve offering not just state-of-the-art vehicles but also outstanding after-sales services, especially as over-the-air software updates and advanced customisation technologies become more mainstream.

The burgeoning luxury automotive market in the UAE, dictated by a unique amalgamation of cultural preferences, affluent demographics, and strategic investments, reveals an exciting future. As more bespoke creations flood the roads, the landscape of luxury car ownership in the region is poised for transformation; one that prioritises personalisation at every turn.
