Toyota compte 150 millions de véhicules en circulation

Toyota reports over 150 million vehicles in operation worldwide, capturing 9.1% market share. With more than 10 million sold in 2024 and rising electric and hybrid sales, the company expands into new revenue streams beyond sales, underscoring its evolving role in a competitive sector.

Toyota continues to solidify its dominance in the automotive industry, recently reporting that over 150 million of its vehicles are currently on the road. This figure underscores not just the company’s stature as the world’s leading automaker, surpassing Volkswagen for the fifth consecutive year, but also serves as a testament to the reliability associated with Toyota’s brand. With more than 10 million units sold in 2024 alone, Toyota’s consistent performance parallels its longstanding reputation for durable and dependable vehicles.

Historically, the automotive sector has relied heavily on vehicle sales for revenue; however, a notable shift is occurring as manufacturers explore alternative monetisation strategies. With its vast number of vehicles in operation, Toyota is expanding its financial portfolio to include used vehicle sales, subscription services, and preventative maintenance through parts and accessories. Furthermore, the company offers insurance products and financial services, leveraging its extensive vehicle base to foster additional revenue streams.

According to Hedges & Company, an automotive research firm, there are approximately 1.64 billion vehicles currently in use across the globe. If Toyota’s figure is accurate, it represents around 9.1% of all vehicles in operation, a significant market share. This growth trajectory began when Toyota celebrated the production of its 300 millionth vehicle in the autumn of 2023, a milestone that highlighted the company’s manufacturing prowess. Notably, of these, 180.5 million were produced in Japan, while the remainder was assembled in various global locations.

The Toyota Corolla, often celebrated for its outstanding reliability, has been the world’s best-selling car since 1997. Having marked the sale of its 50 millionth unit in 2021, the model continues to capture consumer interest, with Toyota moving over one million units in 2024 alone. As of September 2023, a staggering 53.4 million Corollas have been sold, solidifying its status as the brand’s top-selling nameplate and a symbol of automotive dependability.

In recent years, Toyota has also made headlines with its hybrid and electric offerings. The RAV4 has notably dethroned the Ford F-150 as the best-selling vehicle in the United States—a remarkable feat after the F-150’s 40-year reign. With more than 475,000 units sold in 2024 compared to just under 461,000 Ford F-150s, the RAV4 represents the growing consumer preference for fuel-efficient, environmentally conscious options. The updated versions of the RAV4 will debut later this year.

While Toyota has invested significantly in hybrid technology, its entry into the fully electric vehicle sector has been measured. The bZ4X, introduced in 2023, initially faced complications, such as limited power and range. However, updates for the 2026 model year promise notable improvements, including a power boost of up to 338 horsepower and a range increase of up to 314 miles. This repositioning reflects Toyota’s commitment to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape, particularly in the face of rising competition from other electric vehicle manufacturers.
