Cupra Tavascan Expands Brand’s Electric Lineup with Bold Design and Long Range

Cupra has officially revealed the Tavascan, its newest all-electric SUV coupé and the second EV in its growing portfolio after the Cupra Born. Built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, the Tavascan combines distinctive styling with solid performance and long-range capability, positioning it as a competitor in the midsize premium EV segment.

The Tavascan measures 4,644 mm long and 1,861 mm wide, with a height of 1,597 mm and a wheelbase of 2,766 mm. While it shares its underpinnings with other MEB-based models such as the Volkswagen ID.5 and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, Cupra has differentiated the Tavascan through a more aggressive design. The front is marked by a sharp, low-slung nose with large air intakes for battery cooling and signature triangular LED headlamps. At the rear, a connected light bar and sculpted diffuser nod to Cupra’s Tavascan XE — the brand’s entry in the Extreme E electric off-road racing series.

Inside, the Tavascan features a bold design language, centred around a floating dashboard structure supported by a central spine. A 15-inch infotainment screen dominates the cabin and is supported by a smaller 5.3-inch digital driver display. While the display responsiveness and visual quality received praise, some test drivers criticised the use of haptic-touch controls for key functions. Bucket seats and a sporty steering wheel enhance the driving position, but certain ergonomic aspects have drawn mixed reviews.

Rear passengers benefit from flat flooring and sufficient headroom, and the boot offers a practical 540 litres of space. However, the absence of a front trunk may be a consideration for buyers comparing it to models like the Tesla Model Y.

In terms of performance, the base model comes with a single rear-mounted motor delivering 210 kW (286 hp) and 545 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Power is supplied by a 77 kWh battery pack offering an estimated WLTP range of up to 568 km. Real-world range may vary depending on driving conditions and temperature — a factor worth noting for buyers in the GCC climate.

Charging options include AC and DC support, with fast charging of up to 135 kW. Under ideal conditions, this enables a 10–80% charge in just over 30 minutes. However, some early testers reported variability in charging speeds in less-than-optimal environments.

Standard features include adaptive cruise control, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, and a full suite of driver assistance systems. Multiple driving modes allow users to tailor performance for efficiency or sportier responsiveness.

The Tavascan will start from €48,000 in Europe, with potential subsidies bringing the cost down to €43,500 in select markets. While pricing in many other markets has not yet been confirmed, Cupra’s expansion and the model’s competitive specs suggest strong potential interest, particularly among buyers seeking a stylish alternative to mainstream EVs.
