Bentley unveils new high performance hybrid powertrains

Bentley Motors has recently expanded its portfolio of electrified vehicles with the introduction of its new High Performance Hybrid powertrains for the Continental GT, Continental GT Convertible, and Flying Spur. This development marks a significant step in Bentley’s journey towards fully electrifying its V8 engine across all core models, following the earlier release of the Ultra Performance Hybrid earlier in the year.

The High Performance Hybrid delivers a robust total power output of 671 brake horsepower (bhp) and 930 Newton metres (Nm) of torque, achieved through the combination of a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor. Positioned just below the more powerful 771 bhp Speed and Mulliner versions, this new hybrid configuration surpasses the performance of the previous W12 Speed models. The hybrid powertrains boast impressive acceleration capabilities, with the Continental GT capable of reaching 0-100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, while the GT Convertible and Flying Spur achieve this in 3.9 seconds.

In addition to high performance, the new hybrid powertrain prioritises practicality, offering an electric-only driving range of up to 85 km for the Continental GT and 82 km for both the GT Convertible and the Flying Spur. The CO2 emissions for these models are also notably low for their segment, measuring as little as 29 grams per kilometre, depending on the specific model variant.

The fourth-generation Continental GT and GT Convertible continue to showcase Bentley’s distinctive design language while incorporating modern enhancements such as the new ‘Harmony’ headlamps, gloss black matrix grilles, and an updated rear diffuser. Inside, the vehicles feature handcrafted seating with straight fluting and options for bright or dark chrome finishes, creating a bespoke experience for occupants. Additionally, Bentley’s Active Chassis technology, which includes Dynamic Ride, rear-wheel steering, and an electronic limited-slip differential, ensures a refined driving experience under various conditions.

The three models are also available in Azure trim levels, which are designed with comfort and wellbeing in mind. These configurations boast exclusive design elements such as 22-inch machined wheels, distinctive Azure badging, and unique quilted leather interiors. Standard features include wellness seating equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, as well as open-pore wood trims and mood lighting. Notably, the Flying Spur Azure variant offers massage-equipped rear seats and advanced driver assistance technologies tailored for long-distance travel comfort.

This initiative reflects Bentley’s commitment to evolving its offerings in line with advancements in hybrid technology, positioning the brand at the forefront of luxury automotive innovation.
